Requirements for Human Biology (HBIO)

In addition to adhering to the UC Merced and School of Natural Science requirements, the additional requirements that must be met to receive the B.A. in Human Biology at UC Merced are:

Human Biology Requirements (54-61 units): The Human Biology major consists of 14 courses (6 lower division and 8 upper division) designed to give all students a common foundation of core knowledge specific to the discipline.

Principles of Organic Chemistry (CHEM 8) 4 units
Principles of Physical Chemistry (CHEM 10) 4 units
Mathematical Biology (MATH 30)
or Calculus of a Single Variable II (MATH 22)

Introduction to Psychology (PSY 1) 4 units
Introduction to Economics (ECON 1)
or Introduction to Cognitive Sciences (COGS 1)*

Introductory Physics II (PHYS 9) 4 units
* Human Biology majors in Economics track must take ECON 1;
majors in Psychology/Cognitive Sciences track must take COGS 1
